We love a good challenge here at Sweet Inn. The Sweet Inn experience stems from providing our travelers with an incredible stay at the utmost stylish apartments. Therefore when our Rome team were presented with the opportunity to renovate a historical townhouse into one of our signature chic holiday apartments, they didn’t think twice.
What is Casa di Lucio?
Casa di Lucio is a beautiful townhouse located in Trastevere, the most happening neighborhood in Rome. It was once owned by Lucio Dalla, one of the most famous musicians and songwriters in Italy (hence the name Casa di Lucio).
The unforgettable Lucio lived in the house located at Vicolo del Buco 7 from 1980 to 1986, which counts as the Golden Years of Italian music. In the living room of this house, he composed many songs on the piano accompanied by friends and record labels. It was here that he wrote, among others, the famous “La Sera dei Miracoli” (Night of Miracles).
Who is Lucio Dalla?
Lucio Dalla was born on March 4, 1943. He became one of the most important and popular, figures in Italian Pop music. Dalla’s career faced many sudden changes in his musical direction. He never let criticism affect his art, and kept doing things his way, even at the risk of self-parody. By the early 21st century, Dalla had long become an untouchable icon of Italian pop culture as everyone’s favorite mischievous uncle.
Dalla died Just before his 69th birthday, on March of 2012, from a heart attack, the morning after a performance in Montreux.
The Vision for the Transformation
When we envision Sweet Inn apartments we seek a style that combines a local design with a homey feel.
We’ve transformed the house into 4 apartments in different sizes to accommodate different kinds of holidays: from a romantic getaway to a family holiday.
Our local interior designers were influenced by Dalla’s different songs. Each apartment tells a unique story of his life and includes the inspiring song hanging on the wall.
Common Room
The decision to keep a common room in the building, was to provide the various guests an option to connect and share their experiences with one another, just like Dalla used to when he hosted his famous nights with friends.
Casa Lucio I
Inspired by Piazza Grande, the main square in Bologna and the title of one of Dalla’s most popular songs. Accents such as the antique door in the bedroom and hanging photographs of Piazza Grande infuse the space with charm and secrets.
Casa Lucio II
Inspired by the song Caruso, dedicated to the famous Neapolitan opera singer Enrico Caruso, this cozy apartment features beautiful Vietri tiles that line the walls; the color palette of white and blue makes the apartment feel like a Mediterranean breeze. Two mirrored windows, just above the bed, will make you feel as if you’re seeing the Costiera Amalfitana.
Casa Lucio III
Inspired by “Come è profondo il mare” (“How deep is the sea”), one of Dalla’s most popular songs. Our local interior designers have created a maritime atmosphere, with decorative fishes, fluttering curtains, and dreamlike shades of blue.
Casa Lucio IV
Inspired by the famous song “La sera dei Miracoli” (“the evening of miracles”) the apartment is full of surprises, from wrought-iron railings to faux birds soaring over the breakfast bar.
The Official Opening
On Saturday, March 24, 2018, we put together a night of miracles to inaugurate the house for the public. The event gathered many guests including invitees from the Rome’s municipality, leading journalists, and local celebrities. All who participated shared a verbal memory of their meeting with Lucio and their visit to the house of Vicolo del Buco. During the event, we opened the house for the general public, so they could walk and feel the magic in the air.
