Paris always makes my list. There is literally never a bad time to visit – during these months it’s usually the best weather for the local’s favorite pastime – people watching from pavement cafes. If the weather is a little colder, it’s the perfect excuse to swing by Angelina for a cup of their famous hot chocolate.

Florence, Italy
The crowds in Florence start to thin out in October when it gets a bit chilly. However, there’s so much to see indoors in the most beautiful museums and churches in Europe, or wrap up warmly and explore the romantic streets and courtyards in the city.

Barcelona, Spain
The cooler temperature in autumn revitalizes Barcelona. There is a chance of rainy days and morning fogs coming in from the sea, but it’s the ideal time to wander the city and appreciate the iconic Gaudi buildings. Make sure you sample some panellets, the traditional marzipan pastries that are eaten only in the fall.

The French Riviera
If ever there was a place to go in the autumn, it’s the gorgeous French Riviera. This stretch of Mediterranean coastline includes the glamorous and glitzy towns of Cannes, Nice and Juan-les-Pins. This beautiful coastline will be much quieter in autumn, with late September and October the optimum months for visiting. Base yourself in one of the central towns and you’ll be able to day trip to everywhere else you want to see.
